I’m actually excited for when the time comes to begin the documentation process to go back to Korea. It’s slightly stressful, especially getting fingerprints around my area, but it’ll give me something to do. I also hate talking on the phone so all the interviews are nerve-wracking but at least I’ll be somewhat busy and it’ll be closer to me going back. Too bad I have to wait until August to even begin. Apparently I am eligible for a new E2 visa January 31, 2013. It feels so far away.
Not gonna lie, I feel kinda gross.
I’ve always been overweight until two years ago when I lost some pounds and started to feel better about myself. I ended up gaining the weight back once I stopped working and even an extra ten pounds with my decrease in physical activity. Between Paris and Korea in February, I dropped the extra ten pounds but since being back home, I’ve gained them back. My clothes feel tighter and I just feel bad about myself.
It’s definitely time I get back on track with losing weight and being healthier, starting now. Putting this up here so I hold myself to it.
Just suffered a week from hell with terrible jaw, neck, and shoulder pain. The only explanation is that I have a habit of clenching my teeth and when I attempted to break the habit last Monday, I ended up triggering TMJD symptoms. I was so worried I actually went to a dentist (I have no insurance and the last dentist I went to has scarred me for life) to make sure it wasn’t my wisdom teeth. Luckily it wasn’t since I’m terrified of having to get them removed and it would cost a fortune. I’m still slightly sore but things are slowly improving. Hoping I won’t ever have to go through this again.

I have been trying for 2 weeks to get in touch with the Korean Embassy and the Consulate. When I finally get hold of the Consulate, the people didn’t even know what I was talking about. They gave me another number to call and of course no one answered so I had to leave my name and number but they haven’t gotten back to me. No matter what time of day, no one ever answers at the Embassy. I even called the cultural center to see if there was another number but they gave me the same Embassy number and told me the hours. I’m finally giving in and will be making an international call to Korean Immigration.
globalife answered your question: Korea or China
it all depends on where in China …
There’s one school in North Eastern China in Jilin and then there’s a chain of schools where I could essentially choose anywhere in China.
Hopefully this week I’ll get the final answer of when I can reapply for a new E2 visa so I can get back to Korea.
While preparing for the worst (which is having to wait till next March/April), I’ve come across a possible English teaching job in China. China is another place that I’ve considered teaching in. The thing is that I only spent a week in China and it is a huge country whereas Korea is a smaller country and I’ve spent more time there. If I go to China, the contract would be a year from September 2012 - September 2013. I’m not sure if I really want to wait that long to go back to Korea.
So now I’m starting to debate: do a year in China then go to Korea or stay in the US till next year and just go to Korea?
Whenever something happens, I always start to wonder why it’s happening, especially when it’s something I perceive as being negative. Why did I encounter so many problems to get to Korea? Why did I encounter so many problems once I finally got there? Why will I [most likely] have to wait so long to go back? I try not to think about it for too long, but in the back of my mind, I always wonder. I just assume it’s for the better and then work on getting through the issues.
I’m waiting the suggested 14 days to contact the Korean Embassy and my Korean Consulate to see if I can get a definite answer on my visa situation. While I’m hoping I can get back there in 6 months, I’m pretty sure I’ll end up having to wait the 13 months. Either way, I’m coming up with some things to do while I wait and trying to see the good in this not-so-good situation.

Maybe getting a letter from your school to send to the Embassy would help?
Yes, I was thinking this might help so I’m working on it. The school is acting like they want to help and just don’t know how. Then again, after some of the things they did while I was there, I’m not sure how genuine their desire to help is. So I’m not sure if they honestly don’t know what to do or if that’s their excuse because they don’t want to do anything.
Also, since there are multiple reasons why I left, I’m not sure if I should mention all of them or focus on one. I can overlook the 2 weeks in a dirty hotel and the lack of communication, but the complete change in contract was a no-go. The issues happening with my family is also a big reason because I feel it’s my duty to be here. My mom and I seem to have this curse where whenever something is going right or we’re about to start something new, a bunch of things suddenly occur that interfere lol. The third reason was when I started spitting out pure blood, but I’m attributing that to my horrible sinus problems and the fact that I was in a dry room with the heat super high and sleeping next to an open window. It hasn’t happened since that day (and I shut off the heat and closed the window).
girlinseoul answered your question: visa question no one seems to know the answer to
i was under the impression that your E-2 is linked to your employer, so you can’t just pick up another job
This is true. That’s why I was hoping to cancel my E2 so I could get a new E2 but since I didn’t say anything to immigration at the airport, it’s making it harder. The school, despite all the problems they caused, are being sympathetic towards my family situation but even they do not know the answer. Since I’m out of Korea already, I keep being directed to call the Embassy here so I’ll do that first, then call Korean immigration if I have to.
